That, however, is not the only flashback from the days of disco getting attention these days. Comparing President Obama’s impact on foreign affairs to former President Jimmy Carter has also come into vogue. Carter showed a weak hand to America’s enemies, and many—seeing the White House as soft and the U.S. as a declining power—took every opportunity to insult, ignore, embarrass, and take advantage of the image of Uncle Sam. The Jesse Helms Lecture Series highlights foreign policies that Senator Helms (R–NC) championed throughout his years in office. The lecture is a part of Heritage’s Protect America Month, showcasing why Americans must commit to protecting the country in an increasingly dangerous world. This year, Senator Kyl focused on explaining the federal government’s constitutional obligation to provide for the common defense and why it must remain a bedrock principle of American governance. The missile is assessed to be a new mobile intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Last year, then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates first revealed the existence of a North Korean road-mobile ICBM. Since the parade, military analysts have disagreed over whether the transporter-erector-launcher vehicles were provided by China and therefore a violation of U.N. resolutions, whether China also provided missile technology to North Korea, and whether the displayed missiles were fakes.

The mainstream media propaganda machine for the Obama Administration has shifted into high gear. The New York Times, which used to be a newspaper, has announced a new age of peace and goodwill in international relations. Such gushing suggests that the discipline of “optimistic autosuggestion,” invented by the French philosopher Emile Coue, has swept the Times. Fortuitously, this new age in foreign relations has arrived just in time for the U.S. presidential election campaign. In a recent series of foreign affairs articles run by the Times, the danger of conflict … More

Vice President Joe Biden’s speech in New York last week reflected the fact that the Obama Administration’s foreign policy record and the Obama Doctrine is so weak that it does not offer much material to run on in an election year. Three and a half years ago, when President Obama and I took office, our nation had been engaged in two wars for the better part of a decade. Al Qaeda was resurgent, and Osama bin Laden was at large. Our alliances were dangerously frayed.

For those who think the United States should withdraw from the world stage, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has a message: America is exceptional because of its willingness to lead, and without maintaining that commitment, America’s greatness will be in jeopardy. In a wide-ranging speech today at The Heritage Foundation, Rice explained why American leadership and a strong foreign policy are vital to guarding U.S. interests and security while furthering the country’s prosperity, particularly given how the world has dramatically changed in the last decade. Rice says those changes … More

This incident has been described by the Turks as a “violation” of its border. It adds another level of complexity to the international community’s efforts to force the recalcitrant Assad regime to end its violence against the Syrian people. Yet despite interest from numerous U.S. friends and allies around the world, since 2008 the program’s expansion … More

President Obama is woefully in need of new vocabulary, as a recent expose by Danish television hilariously and embarrassingly reveals. For leaders of smaller nations, a meeting and a photo op with the American President in the White House is always a huge thrill. And so Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was no exception when she received the presidential treatment on February 24, basking in the glow of President Obama’s approval. The President (rightly) praised Denmark’s military contribution in Afghanistan and Libya, … More
